Designed by Mies van der Rohe for the German pavilion at the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona, the Barcelona@ Chair is an icon of industrial design and the modern movement. Since then put into production and since 1953 produced permanently by Knoll.
Its form is a reinterpretation and citation of the "sella curulis" of Etruscan origin, a folding saddle-shaped chair with 4 curved legs, crossed in an X shape.
A minimal design dictated by a linguistic simplification that eliminates the decorative superfluous to arrive at a formal purity.
Material: chrome-plated stainless steel, leather straps, variable density foam cushions, leather.
